Ever thought about building your own computer?

Some years ago, I guess I was in between college and law school, I decided it would be cool to build my own computer. So I gathered the parts I needed, mainly from friends who either gave them to me or sold them to me, and built a simple machine. This was in the 90s so it was a little bit harder than it is now. These days you can find what you want quite easily, and there are cases that make the install a snap (relatively speaking.)

Over the years I have considered building my own desktop but time, the low prices of desktops, and wanting an easy one stop warranty solution caused me to stay away from that option. Still, it can be fun to build your own computer, and you can make sure you get exactly what you want.

Anyway, I am in the midst of trying to decide if I should buy a new desktop, or just upgrade the one I already have. As I was looking around for reviews, I came across an excellent post that explains what you need to build your own computer. In fact, I enjoyed reading the article so much, I thought I would share it with you. The article is about building a gaming machine for under 1k. For most people, a machine like this would be more than enough, and you could certainly build something for a lot less money and be fine. If you are into editing video, you will want a faster processor and more ram. The price does not include anything but the tower. So you still need to think monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

Kudos to the author.
